As a good corporate citizen, KKB subscribes to the notion
of Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) in conducting its
business and doing its part in creating an ethical and morally
upstanding society. It believes in the principles of philanthropy
and beneficence and recognizes the responsibility of giving
back in various ways such as sponsorship, donations and
other corporate initiatives. It will continue to ensure that the
interests of the stakeholders including customers, employees,
shareholders and communities are taken care of.
CSR Committee
The CSR Committee is formed to ensure that activities are
carried out responsibly, taking into consideration the impact
of the business on its customers, shareholders, suppliers and
employees. The committee sits on a regular basis to consider
all corporate social responsibility matters.
CSR Activities
During the year under review, KKB undertook various initiatives
from different aspects:
a) Community
(i) Sponsorship for St. Theresa’s School Musical Concert
2013 to showcase the talents of the students and to
raise funds for the school’s Music and Performing Arts
Programme.
(ii) Persatuan Bagi Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Terencat Akal
(“PERKATA”) Sarawak fund raising day held on 5 May
2013. KKB participated by setting up a stall to raise
funds by selling food.
(iii) A visit to Home of Peace on 24 March 2013 to meet
the homeless old aged and distributed gifts.
(iv) Donation to The Dyslexia Association.
(v) Donation to The Autistic Society.
(vi) A dinner treat for children of Rumah Kanak-Kanak
Kuching and Rumah Kanak-Kanak Sri Aman.
(vii) Sponsorship for Sarawak Immigration Recreation
Club.
(viii) Donation for SMK Kuching High for their KHSRC
State Camp.
(ix) KKB supported the Malaysian Red Crescent Society
(“MRCS”) fund raising activities through Charity
Joggathon on 27 October 2013.
(x) Charity Dinner of Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan
Pendidikan Pelajar Miskin Sarawak.
(xi) Annual Blood Donation Campaign on 21 May 2013
and 26 November 2013 for the Sarawak General
Hospital’s Blood Bank.
(xii) Apart from donations and charitable activities, KKB
Group of Companies continues to offer practical
on-job training to students from local colleges,
universities and institutions.
b) Employees’ Welfare
(i) In its quest to provide regular training to its employees,
in-house trainings, seminars and courses are
conducted to increase productivity in various relevant
fields. This is in line with the Company’s mission to
be “A Preferred Place of Work” of employees.
(ii) A Special Hospitalization & Surgical Insurance
Scheme is also arranged for all full-time employees.
(iii) KKB recognizes KKB’s staff being regular donors for
the Company’s “Blood Donation Campaign” and as
such rewarded the Top 3 Successful Donors.
c) Health, Safety and Environment (“HSE”)
The HSE Committee is chaired by the Group Executive
Director and it regularly reviews the Group’s HSE policies
to ensure due safety observance at all times.
To be “a good Corporate Citizen, who is committed to
a high standard of protection of HSE at all times” is one
of KKB’s missions that demonstrates its total commitment
towards better quality health and improved safety.
Furthermore, KKB’s certification award for Occupational
Health and Safety Management System – OHSAS
18001:2007 is an endorsement of its commitment towards
Group health and safety.
A fire drill was also conducted at the KKB Engineering
Berhad head office at Jalan Kilang in Bintawa Industrial
Estate to raise awareness of fire emergency and prevention
among the company’s employees. The exercise was held
regularly to ensure that its Emergency Response Team
(ERT) and staff members would know what to do in the
event of fire.
